Around Africa on the pulpit
If you have got something to say, there is only one place where people really listen to you: the pulpit. Dutch watersportsmagazine ‘de Waterkampioen’ thus introduces its 2 page item ‘the pulpit’. (For non sailors: the pulpit is the steel frame on the bow of a yacht that prevents people working on the bow from falling overboard.) Edo Ankum is interviewd about the voyage that ultimately lead him to write the book Around Africa. His first comment: ’Do not listen to everyone’s well ment advise, otherwise you never get cruising’. After that he answers questions like ’Where did the plan come from?’, ‘Was your wife as enthousiastic about the idea as you were?’, ‘What went wrong during the trip?’ and ’What made you decide to stop cruising?’ (Waterkampioen, nr 8, 2009)
