Sally Lightfoot

Around Africa

Edo Ankum and his young family embark on an exceptional voyage: on board their yacht Sally Lightfoot they explore the east African coast, an area dreaded by most yachties due to its lack of stable politics, pirate attackes and absent medical back up infrastructure. With their two toddlers Edo and his wife travel through various climate zones, along different cultures and they explore increasingly wilder and more exotic shores, with Madagascar as ultimate highlight. After Cape Town a new challenge has to be tackled: to sail the yacht back to the Netherlands as quickly as possible, without calling on any of the west African ports.

Edo wrote ‘Around Africa’ on the family voyage. Unfortunately up till now it is available only in Dutch. Most of the information on this part of the website is directly related to the book. Such info is therefore also Dutch only. The photogallery speaks for itself though. Under ‘more on Sally’s voyage’ you will find general details on the family cruise in English, as well as more pictures and some magazine articles.

(Sorry, only in Dutch).
